Congratulations to the Girl’s 99 Copa Team and coach, Jason Farrell, for winning the National Cup XI Northwest US Club Regionals. The team scored 11 while only giving up 2 goals and were not beaten in the five game series. The competition included 3 of the 4 Oregon State Semi Finalists as well as 2 of the 4 Washington State Semi Finalists.
“The girls battled through some adversity over the weekend and, ultimately, their insistence and dedication to play the game the proper way proved too much for our opponents this weekend." said Coach Farrell. "We have a lot of weapons on this team and, while we still have a long way to go in order to be the team we want to be, we learned a lot about ourselves and this will benefit us quite a bit over the course of the coming months.”
Regionals is as far as the U11s and U12s can progress in this national tournament. The G99 are still U12 by tournament rules and only U13 and older progress beyond regionals to the finals. The team wishes they could continue as the regionals representitive at the National Cup Finals in Chicago though. “It is really unfortunate that this age group does not send a regional representative to the National Cup Finals in Chicago. Our team has the ability to play extremely good soccer and could have done very well on a national stage,” said Coach Farrell.
Well played G99 Copa, and with this goal in place the club looks forward to seeing your progress this year.
