Peter Fewing brings to Seattle United a life committed to area youth and to the great game. Like many of the youth he will serve, Fewing started playing the sport at age six. Growing up in Burien, Fewing played his youth soccer with both the Highline Eagles (three-time WSYSA state finalists) and Highline High School (one state championship). He then attended Green River Community College for one season before finishing his collegiate career at the University of Washington.
Fewing was a member of the Seattle Storm from 1985 to 1990, in the defunct American Professional Soccer League. He was the team’s all-time assists leader, was top ten in total points and second in total team appearance. During this period, Fewing transitioned from player to coach.
He was the long-time head coach of Seattle University men’s soccer from 1988 to 2006 and brought national prominence to this NCAA Division II program. In his 18 years with the Redhawks, Fewing’s teams had great success, including two national titles (1997 and 2004). Fewing is a USSF National “A” licensed coach. He was twice named National Coach of the Year. Other honors include four regional championships, appearances in the final four, a final eight, two National Sportsmanship awards, three Great Northwest Athletic Conference Coach of Year awards, and five Far West Regional Coach of the Year awards. Fewing left Seattle University in 2006.
Since then, Fewing has served the local chapter of America SCORES, a national non-profit bringing the beautiful game and literacy to kids across the country, as executive director and on its advisory board. Most recently, Fewing has coached youth soccer at both Crossfire and Emerald City FC (ECFC) and currently serves as an ECFC Assistant Coaching Director.
Fewing is at the center of many exciting soccer events within the area. Last fall he was tapped to take the helm of the division-winning Kitsap Pumas, a United Soccer League Premier Development League professional soccer club. His “Peter Fewing Soccer Camps”, a regional institution in the greater Seattle area, is entering its 30th year. A noted public and motivational speaker, Fewing is part of the Seattle Sounders FC broadcast team. He is a guest lecturer for the University of Washington’s Intercollegiate Athletic Leadership program.
DoC Jimmy McAlister on Peter Fewing:
"We're thrilled to have Pete join us. Pete is a great coach himself, of course, but what's most exciting is having him in a regional director role because he's a great teacher, an inspirational leader. He'll help us develop a stronger coaching staff overall, which will build a stronger base of players and deliver the full potential of Seattle United."
Gary White, Washington Youth Soccer Technical Director, on Peter Fewing:
"Peter Fewing is a close friend of mine, and has been since I first moved to the state. We've worked together at the ODP level. He has an immense knowledge of the game, and has been successful at both the youth and collegiate levels. He's one of the elite coaches in the state, and truly one of the great gentlemen in the game. He's a great hire for any club, and I wish him all the best."
