D.J. joins Seattle United with playing and coaching experience.
D.J. started his youth soccer experience playing full sided 11v11 soccer at 8 years old for the LVR Youth Soccer Club. At the time, there was only one store in the Seattle area that had “soccer” supplies year around, his first pair of cleats were made of real leather! A lifetime Seattle Sounder’s fan, he was able to see Pele play in his last regular season NASL professional game with the NY Cosmos versus the Seattle Sounders, “I just remember hearing the crowd chant PELE! PELE! PELE! and I was thinking this sure is a weird way to cheer for your team…”
D.J. has been coaching both REC and Select soccer teams for the past 12 years. For hte past 3 years he has coached in the FC Shoreline select program. D.J. is passionate about teaching the game to all youth players regardless of age or skill, in hopes of passing on his passion for the game. "My reward is seeing kids find a true passion for something as exciting as the sport of soccer and become both long lasting players and fans.”
He is the current President of the Hillwood Youth Soccer Club in Shoreline, WA and as been on the club’s governing board for 11 years. He serves on the Seattle United Finance Committee as well as the Seattle United Regional Operating Committee (ROC).
D.J. believes that the youth soccer movement for all of Seattle and Shoreline will greatly benefit from the new Seattle United Club formation.
“Having been a part of this formation and development process for the last three years, I believe the committees and leadership have developed a solid foundation for a youth soccer program. It is my hope that this program will better support the youth REC and Select soccer players of Seattle and Shoreline. This should be a very successful model for years to come.”
His soccer passion is supported by his family of three children and wife, Maria.
DJ holds a USSF "D" Coaching License.
