Brandon comes to Seattle United from the Washington Rush bringing with him over 20 years experience as a player at the youth, collegiate and semi-professional levels. He also brings with him, over 8 years of coaching experience at the youth and collegiate levels and a lifetime of passion for the beautiful game.
Brandon's youth and high school career included three Washington State Championships with NWN Nemesis and two 3rd place finishes in the WIAA State HS Championships while at Shorecrest HS. He also played for the Seattle Sounders Select in 2000-2001 advancing to the Quarterfinals of the Lamar Hunt US OPEN CUP, losing to the Los Angeles Galaxy of Major League Soccer. Brandon was also a two-time National 3rd place finisher with the Washington State team at the U-23 National Championships.
Brandon began his college playing career at SPU, leaving when he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. Brandon was a NWAACC All Star at Edmonds Community College before serving as a Corporal on one combat deployment in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. He returned to Warner Pacific College in Portland, Oregon to finish his collegiate playing career and earn a Bachelors of Science in Business Administration in 2008. Mitalas (along with Seattle United coach Alex Chursky) was a member of the Hibernian Saints, 2005 USASA Amateur Cup National Champions.
Brandon’s impressive coaching background includes stints at Clackamas Community College, Warner Pacific College and Highline Community College, He helped coach the Shorecrest HS Boys Team to a State Championship in 2005 and has coached club teams at Eastside United in Portland (where he also served as the Director of Goalkeeping), the Lake City Soccer Club, Greater Renton Football Club, and the Washington Rush. (also serving as Director of Goalkeeping)
Brandon is currently in his second year as Men’s Soccer Coach at Edmonds Community College which made a post-season tournament appearance in 2009.
He is the son of Seattle-area soccer legend Teddy Mitalas.
