Director, Northwest Region

Sean Russell grew up in West Seattle, playing his youth soccer at Emerald City and Crossfire Premier. While attending Garfield High School he began his coaching by volunteering to assist youth teams at Emerald City. Sean played his collegiate soccer at Seattle Pacific University, where he appeared in the NCAA Tournament each of his four seasons from 2011-14. While captaining the team his senior year he led the Falcons to their first outright GNAC Championship since the league’s formation in 2001. After graduating Sean played for the Kitsap Pumas and OSA FC making two appearances in the US Open Cup.

Sean began his coaching with Seattle United shortly after graduating college in 2015, starting by helping with the club’s Player Development Academy and Rec Outreach programs. In his first two full years at the club Sean also coached the Seattle Country Day School elementary school teams. Sean earned his USSF “C” License in 2019 and is currently enrolled in his “B” License course. In his time at the club Sean has taken the G08 Copa and G13 Copa team’s to the President’s Cup finals, and coached the 03 Copa team in the President’s cup regionals, reaching the knockout rounds. Sean became the Camps Director in 2019, overseeing the start of the camps program, and in the summer of 2022 became the NorthWest region director.

Sean’s followed both of his parents Dave and Phoebe into the Seattle youth soccer scene, and his brother Ian, a long time MLS and USL 1 coach, who currently lives in Reno. Sean enjoys spending time reading, and having board game nights with friends. He was lucky to see his favorite team Manchester United play live against the Sounders, topped off by a Wayne Rooney 10 minute hat-trick.
